Fitra Nature Education began with a mother's dua. In the years following COVID, our founder wanted to give her young daughters something that felt increasingly rare — a community of like-minded families who valued nature, our deen, and the simple joy of learning together.
So she started small, by teaching free weekly nature classes for young children in the Princeton area. Families gathered outdoors week after week, and something took root: the children were flourishing, and the need for this kind of learning was undeniable. In 2024, that small beginning grew into Fitra Nature School, which soon found its home in Central New Jersey. Soon, alongside a team of dedicated and talented teachers, the school served children ages 2 through 16.
The success of the program revealed something larger — a deep need across Muslim institutions to adopt this way of learning. In response, Fitra Nature Education now designs curriculum to share the Fitra Way with families and schools everywhere, and consults with Muslim institutions bringing project-based and nature-based learning to their own programs.
Through the years, our intention has stayed the same: to enrich the education of all children, and to foster an environment grounded in what we believe are the three roots of nurturing the fitra — joyful learning, remembrance, and stewardship.
We offer seasonal, outdoor, Islamic nature programs in the Fall and Spring. Our programs are divided by age groups: Chickadees (2-4), Hummingbirds (5-7), Cardinals (8-11), and Eagles (12-16). For a list of active programs and events, please visit our Registration App or our Fitra Nature School page for active offerings.
We support educators and families by sharing our curriculum, which outlines the Fitra Way. We also consult with Muslim institutions looking to bring project-based and nature-based learning into their own programs. Our blog, The Fitra Nature Journal, also has resources for anyone intending to walk this path.
